All / Pantry / Extra virgin olive oil
Extra virgin, from a named region or estate. A PDO label (in Europe) certifies where it was grown, pressed, and bottled.
Tin or dark glass, kept in a cool cupboard and used within a couple of months of opening.
Store-brand oils regularly do well in blind tastings against brands at twice the price.

Find on AmazonWorth knowing
- Buy the '100% California' bottle, not the cheaper 'Global Blend', which mixes imported oils.
What we ruled out
Paying for 'cold extracted' or 'first press' on the label. All extra virgin oil must meet these standards anyway.
Clear plastic bottles. Light damages the flavour.
'Light' or plain 'olive oil'. Refined, so it has almost none of the phenols that make extra virgin worth buying.
